There are so many good shows on television. It seems like they keep getting better and better. I have always been a lover of film and TV. Over the last seven or eight years, I noticed there seems to be a shift from film being the big thing to TV being where everyone is creating new shows. And not just mediocre shows. Viewers now have an extensive catalog of amazing television to watch. I find that really exciting!
I think the best way to structure this series of posts is to do it by streaming service. So, let’s start with what I’ve been watching on Apple TV.
Ted Lasso - There is a reason everyone was talking about this show. It is brilliant, hilarious, heartwarming, and so addictive. It’s the kind of show you never want to end. Can we talk about the casting?!?! Oh my goodness, the casting director needs a bonus and a round of applause.
Loot - I will always be a fan of Maya Rudolph. Every single episode had me in stitches. I love this group of nonprofit workers Maya’s character has surrounded herself with.
The Buccaneers - Based on Edith Wharton’s book The Buccaneers. It’s a cute fun show. New York Society in the 1870s, old money vs new money. It’s quite to romp.
The Morning Show - I love this show so much and the cast is off the charts! The behind-the-scenes newsroom drama is so entertaining and the topics they tackle are often timely to what’s happening in the real world. I wish this were a 22-episode show.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters - I won’t say this show is great, but it’s adventurous fun and a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. We’re in San Francisco after the battle between Godzilla and the Titans. So yeah, monsters are real and we are following two siblings who are on a journey to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. It’s a good time. According to Variety, Monarch has been renewed for season 2 and Apple has struck a deal with Legendary Entertainment to develop multiple spinoff series set in the so-called Monsterverse.
Slow Horses - Based on the Slough House series by Mick Herron. If you’re into espionage films and TV shows, this one is right up your alley. This show is so fun to watch. A group of MI5 agents who did something to jack up their career, and now they’re working at Slough House trying to redeem themselves.
Silo - Based on the Silo series by Hugh Howey. I love reading and watching sci-fi. Especially post-apocalyptic and dystopian sci-fi. Silo had me locked in from episode one. I binged season 1 so quickly, it was over before I knew it. Thankfully season 2 premieres this coming November.
Shrinking - This show was so funny. Jessica Williams shines in Shrinking. It’s not a cast I would have picked, but everyone compliments one another so well and it all just works. I’m so ready for season 2, which I think premieres in October.
Invasion - Earth is visited by an alien species that threatens humanity's existence. Events unfold in real time through the eyes of five ordinary people across the globe as they struggle to make sense of the chaos unravelling around them. If you enjoy reading and/or watching sci-fi, then you’ve got to check out Invasion.
Lessons in Chemistry - While I had no interest in reading the book, I was very excited to check out the show. It was pretty good. I think it did what it came to do and I have no complaints.
Presumed Innocent - Based on Scott Turow’s book Presumed Innocent. A horrific murder upends the Chicago prosecuting attorney's office when one of its own is suspected of the crime, leaving the accused fighting to keep his family together. YOU MUST WATCH THIS SHOW! It has a plot twist that will leave your jaw on the floor! Jake Gyllenhaal, Ruth Negga, and Peter Sarsgaard did an outstanding job. WATCH IT!!!!!
Sunny - Follows Suzie, an American woman living in Japan, and Sunny, a domestic robot made by her husband's company, as they uncover the dark truth of what really happened to Suzie's husband and son who disappeared in a mysterious plane crash. I just started watching this show, but it is darkly comedic and I think I’m going to love it. I like Rashida in this role. She’s got a sardonic wit that I quite enjoy. We’ve got a bit of a mystery going on and I am excited to see how it all unfolds.
This includes part 1 of what I’ve watched on Apple TV. Be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss part 2 of this post coming out tomorrow.
