Happy U.S. Publication Day to Blue Sisters!!!
Mellor’s debut novel Cleopatra and Frankenstein was released in 2022. I immediately got it from my library and read it. That book had me in the strongest chokehold ever. It was so relatable to my former married life when I was in my 20s. The book was so good! I returned it to my library and immediately went to the bookstore to buy myself a copy and read it again!
The moment Mellors shared about her upcoming novel Blue Sisters I was beyond excited. As soon as it was available to pre-order on Blackwell’s, I pre-ordered it! It was my favorite read of June.
Blue Sisters tells the story of three sisters, Avery, Bonnie, and Lucky, who are struggling in their own ways, a year after the death of their beloved sister Nicky. We follow the lives of each sister and get a closeup look at what they’ve been dealing with personally. They each have their own set of issues and life setbacks to address and work through. The 1-year anniversary of the death of Nicky moves them to begin the process of reconnecting with one another and as sisters go, it wasn’t all that smooth.
This book is full of heart and just like in Cleopatra and Frankenstein, it moved me in so many ways and pulled my emotional heartstrings over and over again. I laughed, I cried, I felt angry, and I felt the yearning to protect. It deals with themes of grief, addiction, and sisterhood. I also liked that their mother was not your typical conventional mom, which added another layer of complexity to the story. It was fantastic.
If you’ve never read either of these books, I highly recommend you do.
Adding to my TBR! I have so far enjoyed all the suggestions that I have gotten from you from the podcast!
Super excited about reading this! Thanks for sharing your review with me on threads!
